5 MIN STUDENT CENTER UPDATE HEATHER ENNIS
DISCUSSION June 20th summer hours start (6am-9 Mon-Fri). July will have programming around Olympics. Roof construction done June 22. New camera system going in by end of June.
20 MINUTES GSO SPENDING DEREK MUSASHE
DISCUSSION Current about $20000. June 30th is usually zeroed, cleared before next year.
RW: 7000 donated. 9500 expenses. cost us 2700.
Rules: foundation account for alcohol. but risk management doesn’t care what we use our money for.
GSO allocated $4000 but library doesn’t need it so we will not give it.
Jackie is concerned Dean/provost wants corporate sponsorship because it will disturb financial stability.
GSO want to keep money in pot just in case RW turns into something we don’t want to participate in.
CONCLUSIONS Overall surplus of $5000! Put it in slush fund. Event planning committee over summer to plan to spend extra money next year (also think about Fall BBQ-Mark would like to be involved). Get going with connecting with rest of student body.
5 MIN RESEARCH WEEK VS. SRF JAMES MCKANNA
DISCUSSION We don’t know who will be in Research Week planning committee.
Survey results: Good feedback during week. but results: liked better attendance at the talk. 214 total responses. 72 students. 2 students wanted SRF back. faculty and students had similar feedback. student poster should be more interdisciplinary. lower attendance for 4 days as opposed to 2. Judging was not working very well. More awards at lower amounts. Most thought focus on students was enough.
Consensus: ppl like research week. We should still have option to back out of it and do our own thing.
RW attendance 1800 total. RW had a budget surplus.
Research week keynote::pre-empt this with student chosen speaker.
Phd comics author and president science advisor. We will vote on this later after a survey goes out.
5 MIN PHD COMICS MOVIE SCREENING ANNOUNCEMENT ALLISON ANACKER
DISCUSSION Student center will pay licensing fee. Screening will be at Thursday July 12th. 5:15pm with beer and food.
10 MINUTES VOTING ALISON ANACKER
DISCUSSION Research week over student research. Research week dates will be chosen each year by RW planning committee. GSO research week chair will take over on July 1.
Council members voted in for 2012-2013
Budget voting: Ski trip getting cut down to $1500 from $2500. Bowling and pub nights added to BBQ, west campus, RW. Total is probably more like $13500.
